LAREI

Overview

The Los Amigos Research and Education Institute, Inc. (LAREI) was established in 1956 as a non-profit organization to administer medical research and educational programs at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (Rancho). In addition, LAREI serves as a resource and information center and sponsors seminars and conferences, presented by Rancho professional staff, which attract physicians and health personnel from all over the world for specialized rehabilitation studies.

Mission

The mission of LAREI is to conduct medical research and education activities at Rancho to continuously improve the care and quality of life of persons with disabilities. Rancho has over 50 years of experience providing quality care for people with disabilities. Rancho's mission is to provide each patient with superior medical and rehabilitation services in a culturally-sensitive environment. Rancho is one of the largest comprehensive centers and is world renowned in the field of medical rehabilitation. Rancho has been ranked by U.S.News & World Report as one of "America's Best Hospitals 2009-10" for Rehabilitation. This recognition underscores the dedication and excellence of Rancho's patient care teams. February 1, 2011 - The American Honda Motor Co., Inc. has awarded $25,000 to LAREI to support the "Driver Safety for the Disabled & Senior Population" through Rancho's Driving Program directed by Sandra Okada, OT. This is a valuable program to assist Rancho patients.

January 1, 2011 - Congratulations to Rancho Drs. Aisen, Shaw, Bughi, Dhamija, and Towfighi, and Mulroy for their recent peer-reviewed publications (see LAREI Publications).

August 1, 2010 - Rancho is ranked one of "America's Best Hospitals" for the 21st Consecutive Year by U.S. News & World Report:
We are very proud to report that Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center was named one of "America's Best Hospitals" in Rehabilitation Medicine in the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings, which were announced on July 15, 2010.

Rancho is the only rehab facility based in California or any of its neighboring states to be ranked in the top 20 on this year's list of top Rehabilitation hospitals.

Congratulations to the entire Rancho team for demonstrating every day that Rancho has the "best" patient care of any rehab hospital in our state!
