Completed Research Studies
Rancho's Project Threshold helped individuals with physical disabilities solve task performance problems through the use of assistive technology or environmental modifications. Individuals who were having difficulties at work, at school or home with independent living skills were candidates for the services of Project Threshold.
Evaluations of school and work sites and of assistive technology needs for home and independent living were provided by professionals experienced in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Engineering at Rancho. Each evaluation involved a task analysis and assessment of the client's functional abilities and limitations. Most evaluations were conducted at the client’s work, school, or home, enabling the identification of environmental factors that needed to be considered when researching solutions. Project Threshold provided mobile services through the use of two vans outfitted with evaluation equipment. Additional services included custom modification of equipment, preparation of reports with detailed recommendations, and follow-up.
Project Threshold provided services to clients throughout the State of California. More than 6,000 persons were served during its 27 years of operation which ended in 2008. Most of the clients came to Project Threshold through a case service contract with the California Department of Rehabilitation. Additionally, Project Threshold provided services to clients from various other state and Federal agencies, insurance companies, employers, and self-referred individuals. The high regard that the California Department of Rehabilitation held for Project Threshold was exhibited by the long-standing and ongoing nature of this contractual relationship. Unfortunately, due to budgetary and staffing constraints, Rancho has not renewed its contract with the California Department of Rehabilitation, and performs client assessments on campus..
